TNN Oct 5, 2018, Panaji: The United Porvorim Citizens Forum on Thursday
demanded a thorough probe by a special investigation team into illegal
constructions, hill-cutting, destruction of mangrove swamps, wetlands and
forest and landfilling activity at Salvador do Mundo (Saloi).
It also condemned the recent attack on advocate Olav Albuquerque, a gaunkar
of the village, who was representing John Menezes, 85, and alleged that the
perpetrators were led by the local sarpanch. Members further said they were
concerned about rising criminal activity under the patronage of politicians.

A Goan lawyer based in Mumbai accused the Sarpanch of Salvador De Mundo for
assault while he was inspecting a site
Porvorim: A Goan lawyer Olavo Albuquerque, residing in Mumbai on Thursday
has filed a complaint against the Salvador De Mundo Sarpanch for allegedly
assaulting and pushing him during a site inspection in the village.
The Panchayat had issued a notice to John Menezes, a resident of Mumbai
through registered AD based on his complaint dated June 11, 2018 and the
site inspection was fixed for September 27 by the Panchayat along with the
complaint Menezes and his lawyer Albuquerque.
During the inspection, the lawyer Olavo Albuquerque said that he was
assaulted and pushed by the Sarpanch of Salvador De Mundo Village for no
reason. “I was assaulted and pushed by the Sarpanch during the inspection
held today when I was showing the officials the 40 illegal houses
mushroomed on forest land in the village. I have filed a complaint at the
Porvorim Police station.” said Albuquerque on the other hand the Sarpanch
has filed a cross complaint against lawyer Olavo Albuquerque for pushing
him and using slang language.
According to the Sarpanch, Olavo Albuquerque who was present along with
complaint John Menezes and claims to be his lawyer was time and again told
by the panchayat officials not to interfere with the official procedure of
site inspection.
“He was disturbing our official procedure of inspection for which I humbly
requested him to kindly refrain and not to interfere in our inspection as
he doesn’t have the authority towards this effect.
Further I also asked him to show any authority letter of any property owner
but he failed to show the same and started raising his voice on us using
slang language and not allowing us to do the site inspection.” said
Salgoankar .
The Sarpanch further said that he asked Albuquerque to stop interfering and
using slang language, to which he suddenly pushed us and thereafter started
running down the hill which is a mud road with water trenches and gravel.
The Povorim police are yet to file an FIR in this matter and said that
initial investigation is on.

‘Ruckus’ at Salvador do Mundo: 2 FIRs registered

PANAJI: The Porvorim police, on Thursday, registered two FIRs in connection
with the ruckus reported during the inspection of an alleged illegal
construction at Gangozwada, Salvador do
Mundo.
Referring to the first FIR, the police said that a complaint was lodged by
Avinash Palni, secretary of the village panchayat Salvador do Mundo.
The incident occurred at around 11.45 am wherein accused Olav Albuquerque
allegedly obstructed the complainant and sarpanch Sandeep Salgaonkar while
performing the lawful official duty, during an inspection at Gangozwada,
Salvador do Mundo, the police said referring to the complaint.
Further, the accused allegedly abused the complainant, the sarpanch and the
local residents and pushed the complainant and sarpanch, the police added.
Referring to the second FIR, the police said that Albuquerque has filed a
complaint against the sarpanch Sandeep Salgaonkar, Raees Khan and 6 unknown
persons. Referring to the complaint, the police said that the accused
allegedly formed unlawful assembly and abused the complainant with filthy
language, threatened him with dire consequences and assaulted the
complainant with kicks and fist blows.
